SP-BSP honeymoon over as Mayawati hints at dumping ‘mahagathbandhan’

BSP likely to fight coming UP bypolls on 11 seats independently
Mayawati, BSP, election, assembly polls
In the wake of confronting a virtual defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha surveys because of the decision Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Monday alluded to dumping the ‘mahagathbandhan’ (terrific collusion) including BSP and the Samajwadi Party.
The collusion was declared on January 12, 2019, in the keep running up to the general decisions and was touted as an imposing challenger to counter the romping race hardware of BJP in UP, which chooses 80 Lok Sabha individuals, and is critical to government arrangement at the Center. In the scenery of BSP’s terrible execution in UP, Mayawati today gathered a gathering of senior gathering functionaries in Delhi to talk about the components behind the defeat. Mayawati, at the gathering, saw that the terrific union had neglected to convey for the BSP, since the union accomplices had neglected to guarantee an exchange of their separate vote banks, even as she admonished party pioneers to electrify units for challenging the forthcoming races autonomously without falling back upon any coalition.
As indicated by sources, she underlined that SP president Akhilesh Yadav couldn’t encourage the triumph of his significant other Dimple Yadav from the gathering’s turf of Kannauj, where she was vanquished by BJP chosen one Subrat Pathak by an edge of more than 12,000 votes, in spite of the Congress not handling its applicant in her help.
She also noted that Akhilesh had failed to prevent the division of Yadav votes. She alleged that Akhilesh’s estranged uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav, who had floated Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia (PSPL), had managed to transfer Yadav votes to the BJP and thus hurt the grand alliance in the state. Under the alliance, BSP and SP had fought 38 and 37 seats, respectively, in UP, while leaving 2 and 3 seats for Congress (Rae Bareli and Amethi) and ally Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), respectively..

Four crucial messages emerging from the Mayawati-Mulayam kiss-and-make-up

If the intended missives are able to percolate the grassroots, the gathbandhan may evolve stronger and create a triangular tussle for power between the SP-BSP combine, the BJP and the Congress
Lok Sabha Elections 2019
Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Whenever Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav as of late held a joint rally in Mainpuri in which the Bahujan Samaj Party boss spoke to general society to vote in favor of Mulayam Singh Yadav, it made another political edge that sigh to cover the long-standing enmity between the BSP and the Samajwadi Party. It might be reviewed that the two gatherings dropped out in light of the ‘guesthouse outrage’ in Lucknow 24 years back, when the Mayawati outfit’s withdrawal of help to the alliance prompted the breakdown of Mulayam Singh government in 1995.
In any case, in this rally, Mayawati, situated between Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav, agreed full regard to the SP patriarch when he went ahead the dais. The non-verbal communication of the three heads reflected great science between these once political adversaries. Mulayam Singh Yadav spoke to his supporters to regard Mayawati, expressing that she constantly expanded help when it was required. Mayawati, on her part, claimed firmly to her supporters to vote in favor of Mulayam Singh and the gathbandhan in this decision, affirming that he was the genuine pioneer of the retrogressive classes, not at all like Narendra Modi, whom she called a phony in reverse. What are the messages that risen up out of this joint rally and what will their effect be in the 2019 decisions long haul legislative issues of Uttar Pradesh?
The first is that Mayawati was making a decent attempt to persuade her devotees to help Mulayam Singh Yadav and different applicants of the gathbandhan, a large portion of whom are Samajwadi pioneers in a locale in which the third period of surveying will occur in UP. This space is normally a Yadav bastion and is broadly called ‘Yadav-Land’, in spite of the fact that it has a sizeable populace of Muslims also. The voting demographics here incorporate Sambhal, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etah, Badaun, Aonla, Bareilly, and Pilibhit. This is a territory where the Yadavs claim arrives on which numerous Dalits fill in as landless workers. It is additionally an area in which a new country and urban Dalit white collar class is loaning voice to its flimsier brethren…

UP meat sellers on strike against Yogi's crackdown, restaurants to be hit

Operations have been disrupted completely for the past few days because of an atmosphere of fear

slaughterhouse-1
Meat sellers across Uttar Pradesh (UP) launched an indefinite strike from Monday against the Adityanath government's crackdown on illegal and mechanised slaughterhouses.
"We have decided to intensify our strike from tomorrow. All shops will remain closed. Fish sellers too have joined us and are extending support to us," Lucknow Bakra Gosht Vypar Mandal office bearer Mubeen Qureshi had said on Sunday.
He said, in the wake of the crackdown, there was no question of the strike being called off anytime soon. "It will go on indefinitely," he added.
Industry fears being butchered
Several butcher shops and slaughterhouses across the state have complained that they are being targeted under the new dispensation. “Authorities are even closing down chicken shops,” a shop owner in Noida told NDTV. Another said even legal abattoirs were asked to hang curtains in front of their stores, while others alleged that the new administration was not willing to issue fresh licenses or renew the old ones.
As reported earlier, operations have been disrupted completely for the past few days because of an atmosphere of fear across the supply chain, since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) formed the government in the state after winning a historic mandate, with Yogi Adityanath as chief minister. One of the party’s election promises was shutting down illegal slaughterhouses.
So far, allegedly illegal meat shops have been shut down in Lucknow, Varanasi and Ghaziabad. Last week, three meat shops owned by Muslims were burned down in Hathras.
Eateries hit
Due to the strike, non-vegetarian food outlets, including the famous Tunday and Rahim's have shifted to mutton and chicken dishes after buffalo meat became scarce.
As the mouth-watering kebabs went off the platter, the owner of another famous eatery said the situation might force hoteliers to get mutton from Delhi. "But there will be no compromise on the quality of the food," he said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
At the same time, he supported the closure of illegal and mechanised slaughter houses in the state, saying it was difficult for a common man to pass through a locality where the slaughter houses were operating almost openly. He also alleged that the illegal abattoirs even indulged in slaughtering dogs.
Replying to a question, he said, "This is not a religious issue. In fact, it is directly linked to the health of people, who have the right to good quality of meat and fish."

Brand Akhilesh Yadav and the American style of campaigning

Apart from our elections, even the campaign machinery has also become more American

 1486979926-7364.jpg

The 2014 general UP elections 2017  represent a watershed in the Indian electoral history in many ways. For one, it changed forever how campaigns are conducted in the country. The Lok Sabha poll campaign saw the then Gujarat chief minister, Narendra Modi, creating a parallel campaign machinery outside of the party to take his word to the people. His campaign to become the Prime Minister had, in fact, kicked off even before the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) named him its Prime Ministerial candidate.

Citizens for Accountable Governance (led by political strategist Prashant Kishor) helped Modi run a political campaign that could have given any MNC giant a run for its money. Through his 360-degree campaign, Modi reached out to disparate voters using their own communication mediums. What made it stand out was the campaign’s focus on modern technology – social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp were used extensively and effectively to create a cult following for Modi and turn the election into an almost Presidential campaign. The result: Narendra Modi seemed to be the only candidate around.

Lessons from this campaign have been learnt by other political parties as well – some more than the others. Later, similar ways were used in Delhi by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and in Bihar by Nitish Kumar, who built an unlikely alliance with his long-time bête noire Lalu Prasad, took his own message of good governance to the people, and returned to power with a landslide victory.

In the 2014 campaign, the Samajwadi Party had suffered due to its poor reputation when it came to law and order in Uttar Pradesh. Sensing how political communication had changed, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav also decided to adopt the new paradigm. The process started in 2015, when he first met Gerald J Austin on October 31, 2015. Austin had been leading Democratic Party campaigns in the US for decades and had worked on campaigns for former US Presidents like Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. The famous campaign strategist told the Economic Times that he couldn’t set up base in India owing to his age (he is 72 now) but could help train political associates and supporters.

Later, six members of Yadav’s team travelled to the University of Akron in Ohio and attended an international fellowship programme for two months that coincided with the US presidential polls in 2016. The team learnt about campaign techniques and also about voter micro-targeting.

Even as his party colleagues were getting trained in the US, Akhilesh Yadav also roped in a Harvard University professor, Steve Jarding, to help the Samajwadi Party design a campaign for the elections in UP that are now underway. This was done in mid-2016. Jarding also served as a campaign manager and political strategist to the Democratic Party in the US. His other clients included Hillary Clinton, Spanish PM Mariano Rajoy and former US Vice-President Al Gore. Brought on board by the UP CM in the capacity of a political consultant, Jarding helped Yadav redesign his party’s social welfare schemes.

Jarding advised Yadav that while his programmes were good, there was some confusion among voters about whose scheme they were – the centre or the state. Jarding and team did a survey across UP and concluded that Akhilesh Yadav’s clean image and connect with the youth offered an opportunity. In the ongoing seven-phase Assembly elections in the state, these aspects form the cornerstone of the Samajwadi Party offering in a presidential-style campaign.

There have been specific minor-campaigns that have been done by the Samajwadi Party to counter any negative perception. One of these involved Akhilesh Yadav projecting that all of UP was his family. This was done to counter the perception that his party was only serving the interests of his clan.

UP polls 2017: Mulayam backs Akhilesh, to campaign for SP-Cong alliance

1486366138-1491
UP Elections 2017 | Rebuffing all rumours of feuds within the Samajwadi Party as well as his family, party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday said his son Akhilesh Yadav will be the next chief minister of Uttar Pradesh if his party wins the state assembly elections.

"Akhilesh Yadav will be the next Chief Minister. There are no differences in the family. I will start campaigning from tomorrow. Amar Singh is not upset. There is no difference. Akhilesh was given full freedom to work," Mulayam said.

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister further said that he will campaign for Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance.

Earlier, Mulayam had told media that he would campaign for his younger brother Shivpal Yadav first.

After that, he would go to seek votes for the candidates named by his son and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

"Shivpal is not miffed...no one is upset. How can Shivpal make new party without talking to me?" he said.

UP polls 2017: Dialogue, drama, desperation as action begins

1485754915-6475
Breaking news| the action has begun in Uttar Pradesh. Election strategists, central and state ministers, Chief Ministers from other states and the Prime Minister himself are criss-crossing the sprawling state as they hard-sell their parties to voters.
More than a dozen hired choppers are clattering from one rally to the next, carrying leaders of all hues, and making stopovers in small towns and dusty hamlets, while thousands of two- and four-wheelers are on the move, ferrying candidates and supporters.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed two major rallies in Meerut and Aligarh in one week, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has addressed more than 10, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Ajit Singh has been mingling with the Jat community and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati is explaining why she needs to return to power.
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav have jointly held road shows in Lucknow, Agra and Kanpur. Their next stop is Varanasi, which sent Modi to the Lok Sabha. Many state ministers are spending nights in far-flung villages, many without electricity.
Union ministers Kalraj Mishra, Rajnath Singh, Piyush Goel, Smriti Irani, V.K. Singh, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Mukhtaar Abbas Naqvi have been hopping from one city to another. Modi's digs at his opponents have sparked terse responses.
Modi's action-packed speeches are being responded to by regional satraps in their own ways. Egged on by social media workers, Akhilesh Yadav is at the forefront of taking on Modi with crisp one liners.
