Chowkidar not bothered about Rafale but hiding crucial data: Mayawati

BJP leaders may adopt whatever fashion they want, but they should work as the ‘watchman’ of the law, says Mayawati
Mayawati
Current Affairs: BSP supremo Mayawati Friday attacked the BJP using the ‘chowkidar’ jibe alleging while its leaders did not care about the Rafale files, they are shielding crucial data on unemployment and farmers’ plight.
In a series of tweets, she took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his colleagues for calling themselves ‘chowkidar’ (watchman) and alleged they are not bothered about Rafale files being “stolen”, but are hiding data on “declining” employment rate, poverty and farmers’ plight.
Prime Minister Modi and his partymen have launched “Main bhi chowkidar (I too am a watchman) campaign to blunt Opposition’s, especially the Congress’, ‘chowkidar chor hai (watchman is thief’ slogan. The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister further said while several BJP leaders and ministers declared themselves ‘chowkidars’ following the PM, CM Yogi Adityanath was not sure whether to announce himself as one or remain a public servant or a yogi (sannyasi). “BJP leaders may adopt whatever fashion they want”, but they should work as the ‘watchman’ of the law and Constitution, she said.

Congress mocks BJP’s ‘chowkidar’ campaign, struggles for own tagline

Congress is still struggling to come up with an overarching slogan for its campaign
Rahul Gandhi
The Congress party on Tuesday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for resorting to ever-newer branding of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the latest being its ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign, to hide the failures of its government at the Centre. However, with the first phase of voting for the Lok Sabha polls only a little over three weeks away, the Congress is still struggling to come up with an overarching slogan for its campaign.
The party’s publicity committee met again on Tuesday to finalise the agencies that will help prepare its campaign. The delay in the Congress launching its campaign has much to do with its leaders failing to agree on a common theme. The proposals earlier sent to Congress President Rahul Gandhi were rejected as they were thought to lack the kind of bite the party’s earlier campaigns against the Modi government — ‘Suit Boot Ki Sarkar’ (a government of and for moneybags) and ‘Gabbar Singh Tax’, for rolling out a “hurried” goods and services tax — had.
Indian Overseas Congress chief Sam Pitroda, brought in to expedite decision-making, also attended the meeting. His presence helped finalise some of the agencies that will handle the Congress campaign. According to sources, the meeting decided on SilverPush, DesignBoxed and Nixon Advertising for its digital marketing and social media campaigns…

The ‘chowkidar’ trend: PM Modi renames Twitter handle, BJP leaders follow

Narendra Modi had on Saturday urged his supporters to take the ‘main bhai chowkidar‘ pledge, saying he is not alone in the fight against graft and social evils
Chowkidar Twitter handles
Elections News: The BJP Sunday stepped up its ‘Main bhi chowkidar’ campaign with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other party leaders, including its president Amit Shah, prefixing the word ‘chowkidar’ (watchman) to their names in their Twitter profile as they sought people’s support in the Lok Sabha elections.
Party leaders, many of them union ministers and chief ministers, also put out short videos showing that people from different walks of life have turned ‘chowkidar’ to do their bit for the country like Modi. Modi’s Twitter profile identified him as “Chowkidar Narendra Modi” and similar was the case with other BJP leaders as they launched a coordinated campaign.
“As chowkidars of our nation, we are committed to creating a clean economy by using cashless financial transactions. The menace of corruption and black money has adversely affected us for decades. Time to eliminate these for a better future. #MainBhiChowkidar #ChowkidarPhirSe,” Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted. As Chowkidars of our nation, we are committed to creating a clean economy by using cashless financial transactions….
