Never seen such brutal politics before: Sena hits out at Modi, Shah on JNU

An editorial in Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ further alleged that the BJP wanted to see “Hindu-Muslim riots” over the Citizenship Amendment Act, but that did not happen

Against the backdrop of attack on JNU students, the Shiv Sena on Tuesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that what they wanted was happening, and said such “brutal politics” was never seen before in the country. An editorial in Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ further alleged that the BJP wanted to see “Hindu-Muslim riots” over the Citizenship Amendment Act, but that did not happen. Since the BJP has been cornered over the issue of CAA, several things are happening out of “revenge”, it said.
Comparing the attack on Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students to the 26/11 Mumbai terror strikes, the Shiv Sena said “divisive politics” was dangerous for the country. It said the Union Home Ministry’s decision to file cases against “unknown” attackers at JNU was laughable. “Those who entered JNU with masks are not unknown,” it claimed. On Sunday, a mob of masked young people stormed the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus in south Delhi and targeted students in three hostels, unleashing mayhem with sticks, stones and iron rods, hitting inmates and breaking windows, furniture and personal belongings.
Nearly 34 people were injured in the violence. “The fallout of JNU attack is being seen elsewhere in the country…what Modi and Shah want is happening. The country is in danger. Divisive politics is dangerous for the country,” the Uddhav Thackeray-led party said. Terrorists who attacked Mumbai on November 26, 2008 were also masked and the same was seen at JNU. Such elements need to be exposed, it said

JNU violence: Professor C P Chandrasekhar quits statistics committee

Chandrasekhar, who has served on key statistical panels in the past both as a chairman and member, tendered his resignation through an e-mail at around 9 pm on Monday
Professor C P Chandrasekhar
A day after violence broke out in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Sunday, one of its professors, C P Chandrasekhar, resigned from a government-appointed committee, which was set to hold its first meeting to review India’s economic data.
Last month, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation set up the Standing Committee on Economic Statistics, led by former chief statistician Pronab Sen, to “review the extant framework relating to data sources, indicators, concepts or definitions and other issues” of the economic data-sets. The panel was created after concerns were raised about “political interference” in the statistical system. Two key statistical reports — one on the job market and the other on consumer spending — had been withheld by the government earlier.
“I was persuaded that this government is not concerned about the robustness of India’s statistical system. The JNU’s incident on Sunday has further undermined the faith in the system. It shows that we are now living in a different world and it’s hard to work with a government in which you have lost faith,” Chandrasekhar told Business Standard over phone on Monday night.
The committee was to hold its first meeting on Tuesday to finalise the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) data for November 2019 and to set the future agenda of the newly formed committee. Chandrasekhar, who has served on key statistical panels in the past both as a chairman and member, tendered his resignation through an e-mail at around 9 pm on Monday…Keep Reading

JNUSU blames VC for campus violence, says he’s behaving like a ‘mobster’

It also alleged that outsiders were brought in with lathis and rods to “perpetrate violence”.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union on Monday accused the vice-chancellor of “perpetrating violence” in the university. Accusing Vice-Chancellor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar of behaving like a “mobster”, the JNUSU said he used all means to ensure that students and teachers faced “violence”.
It also alleged that outsiders were brought in with lathis and rods to “perpetrate violence”. “This Vice Chancellor is a cowardly vice-chancellor who introduces illegal policies through the backdoor, runs away from questions of students or teachers and then manufactures a situation to demonise JNU,” the JNUSU charged.
For nearly 70 days now, students of JNU have been on a strike against a hostel fee hike. “The violence that happened is the result of the desperation and frustration of the VC and his cronies. “But the chronology of events that unfolded today is a shameful episode for the Delhi Police who gave a safe passage to ABVP goons imported from outside,” the JNUSU alleged. It demanded that the vice-chancellor tender his resignation or be removed by the HRD Ministry.

JNU violence: Masked men enter campus, attack students, teachers in hostels
According to the sources, the clash took place during a public meeting organised by the JNU Teachers’ Association
JNU Violence
Viciousness broke out at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Sunday night as conceal men equipped with sticks assaulted understudies and educators and harmed property on the grounds, inciting the organization to bring in police which directed a banner walk. At any rate 18 individuals, including JNU Students’ Union president Aishe Ghosh, were harmed and admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) as disarray ruled on the grounds for about two hours.
The savagery drew solid responses from resistance groups which hit out at the BJP and blamed “people with significant influence” of attempting to abandon the voice of understudies. Senior Union priests and JNU Students graduated class S Jaishankar and Nirmala Sitharaman quickly censured the episode. Sitharaman affirmed that the administration needs colleges to be protected spaces for all understudies. The Home and HRD services looked for reports from Delhi Police and JNU organization, individually. Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the Delhi Police boss and enquired about the circumstance at JNU.
Sources said the viciousness began at around 5 PM. The JNU organization said “conceal lowlifes outfitted with sticks were meandering near, harming property and assaulting individuals” and that police had been brought in to keep up peace. The understudies claimed that the assailants entered inns and attacked understudies and instructors. Video film disclosed by some TV channels indicated a gathering of men, who were displaying hockey sticks, moving around a structure…
