Bulandhshahr violence: Police arrests accused who shot cop Subodh Kumar

So far, 25 accused have been arrested in connection with the violence that took place in the town earlier this month

Business Standard: Prashant Nat, who allegedly shot Inspector Subodh Kumar in Bulandhshahr violence case has been arrested on Thursday, confirmed police.

SP of Bulandhshahr, Atul Kumar Srivastava, said, “The accused Prashant Nat has accepted during interrogation that he was the one who fired at Inspector Subodh Kumar. Further investigation is underway.”One more accused in Bulandshahr violence case surrendered in a local court here on December 20. According to police, he has been identified as Lokendra.

So far, 25 accused have been arrested in connection with the violence that took place in the town earlier this month. Two people including Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh were killed in the raging violence. Earlier, Police had claimed to have arrested 17 people for their alleged role in fomenting the violence. The accused were arrested under Sections 147, 148, 149, 124 A, 332, 333, 353, 341, 336, 307, 302, 427, 436, 395 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

On December 3, Singh and a youth identified as Sumit were killed in the violence which erupted after the carcasses of 25 cattle were found in forests close to a police post. Locals had alleged that the carcasses found were of cows which were slaughtered illegally.

Cow protection organisations end up in govt net amid NGO crackdown

Nine gaushalas and over a hundred institutions with Muslim names issued show cause notice

The latest home ministry crackdown on non-compliant non-government organisations (NGOs) might have hit some holy cows. The list of some 5,922 units that have not filed their annual returns and have been served a show cause notice includes several institutions working for cow protection.(economy news)

Business Standard went through the list to find at least nine such NGOs that had "Gau" or "Cow" in their names. These nine NGOs are Shri Haryana Gaushala, Gauv Sevva Trust (Gst), Shri Gaushala Kathar Jungle, Ratanlal C Bafna Gau Seva Anusandhan Kendra, Shri Pinjara Pole Gaushala Sewa Trust, Shri Dayalu Gau jeav jan parmarthseva sansthan Kherapa, Shri Harihar Maharaj Kamdhenu Gaushevashram Dharmik Trust, Sri Panch Dev Mahamandir Gau Sewa Ashram Samiti, and Care For Cows Public Charitable Trust. The list could have other such organisations, without an express giveaway in their names, that are serving the cause of the bovine considered holy by a section of Hindus and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

Protection of cows and creating gaushalas was part of the party’s manifesto in the recent Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls. The spurt in 'cow love' has fuelled the rise of vigilante groups indulging in lynchings across various parts of the country. Besides these, there were about a dozen organisations in the list whose names suggested that they worked in the area of animal welfare.
