The Uttar Pradesh government will install solar panels on hotels and guest houses under the Tourism Department. The Non-Conventional Energy Development Authority (NEDA) has been directed to set up solar energy plants in the hotels run by the tourism corporation. NEDA has begun a survey and is likely to install the solar panels on 40 hotels of UP State Tourism Corporation (UPSTC). The state government may provide funds for this purpose in the supplementary budget likely to be tabled this month in the monsoon session of the assembly.
According to an NEDA engineer: “the move is aimed at minimising pollution and providing clean and green energy. Each hotel of corporation will have solar panels of different capacities depending upon the number of rooms and electricity usage.” The UPSTC has hotels in all prominent tourist spots in UP and a majority of them are situated in the Buddha circuit covering Shrawasti, Kapilvastu, Sarnath, and Kushinagar. The use of solar energy will not only provide clean and green energy but also reduce the electricity bills incurred on these units.

According to the officials of the Tourism Department, “every year a large number of foreign tourists from Korea, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar and Bhutan visit places under the Buddha circuit. However, due to the electricity problem, most of them prefer to stay in private hotels. After providing uninterrupted solar energy the footfall of foreign tourists will increase in UPSTC hotels and it will contribute to the state coffers.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday accused Arvind Kejriwal of having a “partnership” with Pakistan and appealed to the people in Delhi to not vote for the AAP chief as it will make Pakistan happy.
Ramping up his attack on the Shaheen Bagh protest, Adityanath said the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is merely an excuse for people to vent their anger against the scrapping of Article 370. “You must have seen their partnership on 370. Arvind Kejriwal used to speak in the same voice as Imran Khan on Article 370. You must have heard it.

Adityanath addressed three rallies on Monday in the national capital ahead of assembly elections. “Will Pakistan decide who Indians should vote for. If voting for Kejriwal will make Pakistan happy, should it be done,” he asked at a rally in Mehrauli.
Adityanath said his Delhi counterpart Kejriwal has become a “toy in the hands of antisocial and anti-India elements”. UP govt moots ‘cow safaris’ to make stray cow shelters economically viable

Adityanath government has allocated Rs 600 crore for cow shelters
Cow, Animals
Furthering its cow protection agenda, the Yogi Adityanath government has mooted the concept of ‘cow safaris’ in Uttar Pradesh to make stray cow shelters economically viable. UP animal husbandry and dairy development minister Chaudhary Laxmi Narayan has directed officials to identify suitable land across the state for setting up ‘cow safaris’, and to forward the proposals for vetting and approval.
Akin to any wildlife or animal safari, the ‘cow safaris’ would be set up over sprawling compounds in the select districts, with the cow allowed to graze freely, while the people could visit such spots. In UP Budget 2019-20, the government had allocated nearly Rs 600 crore for setting up and maintaining cow shelters. Besides, a special cess has been imposed on beer and foreign liquor apart from 2% ‘mandi’ cess to create a corpus for cow protection.

Earlier, the chief minister had also espoused the idea of developing ‘cow safaris’ in all the major cities. However, now the state government is set to take concrete steps to take the idea forward towards fruition. Reviewing the progress of projects for the conservation of stray cattle, the minister instructed officials to involve private trusts, non-government organisations (NGOs) and community entities in the task of cow protection and their shelter….

EC restrains Adityanath, Mayawati, Azam Khan, Maneka from poll campaigning

Maneka, Azam also ‘censured’ as SC ticks off poll panel for not acting on leaders over hate speeches
(Clockwise) Maneka Gandhi, Yogi Adityanath, Mayawati, and Azam Khan
Lok Sabha Election 2019: The Election Commission (EC) on Monday “censured” Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati and Union minister Maneka Gandhi for their allegedly communal remarks. It barred Adityanath from campaigning for 72 hours, and Gandhi and Mayawati for 48 hours each. The EC also reprimanded Samajwadi Party’s Rampur candidate Azam Khan for his indecent remarks against the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) Jaya Prada. Khan too cannot campaign for 72 hours. The four orders come into effect on Tuesday morning.
The EC action came in the wake of the Supreme Court earlier in the day expressing its displeasure at the poll panel not taking action against political leaders for communal and hate speeches. The apex court decided to examine the ambit of the Election Commission (EC)’s powers following its submission it was “toothless”. A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, hearing a PIL (public interest litigation) petition on the subject, was irked enough to threaten to ask that the chief election commissioner be present before the Bench within half an hour.
“So what about Mayawati? She was supposed to reply to you (poll panel) by April 12. She has not replied till today. What does the law permit you to do in such cases? Answer us!” said the Bench, also comprising Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Sanjiv Khanna. EC counsel said: “The power of the EC in this behalf is very limited. We can issue notice and seek reply but we cannot de-recognise a party or disqualify a candidate … we can only issue advisories and in the case of a repeat offence, register a complaint.”

Adityanath calls Army ‘Modiji ki sena’, Oppn up in arms; EC seeks report

Priyanka Chaturvedi attacked Yogi for “christening” the Indian army as “Modi’s army” and demanded his apology
CM Adityanath
Current Affairs: Despite clear directions from the Election Commission of India (ECI), Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh (UP) Yogi Adityanath’s blatant invocation of the armed forces whom he called ‘Modiji ki sena’ in pursuit of votes in the run-up to the first phase of general elections in the state scheduled for April 11, has the Opposition up in arms.
On Sunday, in a rally in Ghaziabad the CM referred to the armed forces repeatedly to draw a contrast with “Congress ke log. “Congress people would serve biryani to terrorists. Modiji’s sena only gives them goli and gola. Congress people use “ji” for terrorists like Masood Azhar but under the leadership of PM Modi, the BJP government is breaking the backs of terrorists by striking their camps,” said the chief minister, adding: “What was namumkin (impossible) for the Congress is mumkin (possible) for PM Modi. Because when Modi is there, the impossible becomes possible.”
Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of Bengal, said it was “shocking” that her UP counterpart should have used such words for the army. “It is shocking to hear the UP CM saying that the Indian Army is the ‘Modi Sena’. Such blatant personalization and usurping of our beloved Indian army is an insult and a humiliation,” said the Trinamool leader. Congress leader Priyanka Chaturvedi attacked Yogi Adityanath for “christening” the Indian army as “Modi’s army” and demanded his apology.
“This is an insult to our armed forces. They are India’s Armed Forces not the private army of Prachaar Mantri. Adityanath must apologise,” the Congress leader tweeted. “If we talk about Masood Azahar, then how can one forge the stellar role of NSA (Ajit) Doval who personally ensured the safe return of the terrorist to terroristan,” she asked, recalling the return of the terrorist in exchange for those hijacked in IC 814.

Cow
Latest News: Facing flak over stray cattle damaging crops and causing road accidents, the Yogi Adityanath government on Tuesday announced a new policy for temporary cow shelters in the urban and rural areas of Uttar Pradesh.
Following a ban on illegal cattle trade and abattoirs after the Adityanath government came to power in March 2017, the number of stray cattle has multiplied in UP. These abandoned animals not only cause extensive damage to crops but road accidents as well, which have claimed lives and injured many. Recently, hundreds of stray cows were locked inside a government school in Aligarh district by irate farmers, who claimed these animals were destroying their crops.

Did BJP orchestrate Bulandshahr riots to polarise society, asks Shiv Sena

‘The BJP knows that the 2019 elections will not be easy for it. Therefore, has it used its weapon of religious polarisation? ‘the Sena asked
Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray. Photo: PTI
The Shiv Sena Wednesday attacked ally BJP over the violence in party-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr, asking if it was orchestrated to polarise society on religious grounds ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
The issue of cow slaughter and consuming its meat is widely prevalent in Goa, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura, but no violence or mob lynchings have been reported there as these states have negligible Lok Sabha seats, the Sena said in remarks laced with sarcasm.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could come to power at the Centre in 2014 as it won 71 out of total 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP, the party noted. The BJP has realised that repeating the performance is not possible and on top of it, if the Opposition comes together, like it did in the Kairana by-polls (in UP), the ruling party could be easily defeated, the Sena said.|Bulandshahr Violence
“Was the Bulandshahr incident orchestrated like the Muzaffarnagar incident before the 2014 polls? The BJP knows that the 2019 elections will not be easy for it. Therefore, has it used its weapon of religious polarisation?” the Sena asked in an editorial in party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’.
The communal clashes in UP’s Muzaffarnagar district and adjoining areas in August and September 2013 had claimed more than 60 lives while over 40,000 people were displaced. The Sena, a ruling ally of the BJP-led Maharashtra government, said the 80 Lok Sabha seats of UP could be a “game changer” for the BJP.

A day after the tragic incident, Adityanath held a meeting in Lucknow with chief secretary, DGP, principal secretary (home) and additional director general of police (intelligence).
The chief minister has already faced flak from the opposition parties for attending a laser show in Gorakhpur when the violence broke out in Bulandshahr on Monday. The Opposition has said that such incidents are part of attempts to incite communal unrest in the society ahead of polls.|Bulandshahr Violents
After the chief minister’s meeting, Additional Chief Secretary (Information) Avinish Awasthi said, “The UP Chief Minister directed (officials) for a thorough probe in the incident. Instructions were also issued to take stringent action against people involved in cow slaughter. “The incident is part of a bigger conspiracy, and hence all those directly or indirectly related to cow slaughter should be arrested in a time-bound manner,” he said.
