Women’s World T20 semi-final: England beat India by 8 wickets, enter final


India suffered under pressure and couldn’t put up a challenging target, England did not face much resistance in their chase

BS| Reigning ODI World Champions England beat India by eight wickets to enter the final of the ICC Women’s World T20 on Friday.England will meet Australia in the final who eliminated hosts and last edition’s winners West Indies by 71 runs in the first semi-final.
India started with a surpise as skipper Harmanpreet Kaur announed their seniormost player Mithali Raj would not be featuring in the playing XI.India won the toss and decided to bat first on the slow wicket, the start wasn’t bad eiher as Tanya Bhatia and Smriti Mandhana gave a good momentum with balanced batting.(Women’s World T20)
India collapsed to 112 in 19.2 overs with opener Smriti Mandhana scoring 33 off 24 balls.England chased down the target in 17.1 overs Tanya departed after scoring 11 runs and then Jemimah Rodrigues quickly got into action, adding boundaries and singles, she went on to score 26 runs in as many balls.
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur struggled a bit with the runs and lost her wicket in desperation, after her dismissal, the remaining line-up collapsed in no time and India could not savour on the momentum given by the top order.|Business Standard
Kirstie Gordon (2/20), skipper Heather Knight (3/9) and Sophie Ecclestone (2/22) wreaked havoc as seven Indian batters failed to get into double figures on a day when Women In Blue decided to drop their seniormost player Mithali Raj.
In India’s reply, England suffered early jolt as Tammy Beaumont was dismissed on the score of 1 run by Radha Yadav and then the other opener Danielle Wyatt too perished scoring 8 runs. England were 24-2 and needed a good partnership.
