Majid Shaikh, the branch head of MNS, in his resignation letter stated: “I am resigning from the post because since the last few days, instead of focusing on issues like development, inflation, women empowerment, unemployment, the party is more focused on the communalism.”

Citing that the political stand of Thackeray has changed from a development to a communal one, Shaikh further stated, “Raj saheb was an icon for me as he used to talk about the blueprint of Maharashtra and farmers issues and that is why I had joined the party in 2009. As the Congress party has emerged victorious in Rajasthan, and is also poised to sweep Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh elections, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray said that Congress president Rahul Gandhi who was referred to as ‘Pappu’ (colloquial Hindi word for dumb kid) by his opponents has now become ‘Param Pujya’ (most revered).

“Rahul was alone in Gujarat, even in Karnataka and now too. Now Rahul Gandhi has become Param Pujya. Will his leadership be accepted at the national level, you are seeing it,” he said.

The MNS chief also took a swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which is inching towards its defeat in recently held state Assembly elections and said that the party was bound to be defeated because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah’s behaviour.

“It was bound to happen. .The way Amit Shah and Modi ji behaved in the past four years. It is all clear to the people of India now… they failed in all fronts and they have nothing to show… so they are playing Ram Mandir card but people are smart enough,” he added.

Attacking the government, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday voiced strongly that Ganesh Utsav would take place in Mumbai “no matter what decision”, and disrupting it would be ‘Hindu droh’.

“When will Ram temple be constructed, only Ram knows but our Ganesh Utsav will surely take place. If they disrupt a Hindu festival, then it would be Hindu droh,” Thackeray said.

“Whether they rule in our favour or not, there will be Ganesh Utsav celebrations in Mumbai. Our pandal will be on the road,” he added.

“There is Hindutva government both at Centre and in the state, then why so many changes in law being brought in,” the Sena chief asked.

Thackeray also questioned the lack of action against loudspeakers put up on masjids.

“They don’t have the courage to remove the speakers put by Muslims,” he said.

Thackeray launched several attacks on the government and accused it of playing “Hindu-Muslim” politics when elections approach.

“I think once again there will be riots between Hindus and Muslims,” he said.
